I noticed this odd behavior, and nothing I could find to explain it in the manual to 2024.10.2 (page 872).
In the edit window, if your track is in "Playlists" display mode and you click the blue playlists options down arrow and select "Delete unused...", no playlists will appear. If you switch your track to "Waveform" or any other mode (blocks, markers, volume, volume trim, mute, or pan), then "Delete unused..." will display all the playlist tracks. Seems unnecessary to have to switch out of playlist display to do the deleting and then switch back to confirm the results. https://imgur.com/a/tzGLTeH |

If there's no clip on the playlist track, can you check if it still shows no available track/playlist?

I just wanted to chime in here to say I think what the OP stated is how it is supposed to work. This is my understanding (correct me if I'm wrong)
1. If you are showing your playlists and you choose the delete unused option, it will only show blank playlists to delete. I personally need this option a lot when I end up consolidating audio on playlists to create fewer playlists. It's nice to just have ones show up that are blank. 2. If you are not in playlist view, then it will give you the option to delete all playlists, even if there are takes and audio on them. I can see why it can be confusing. Maybe a better way to address this would be to have 2 options. A delete empty playlists feature would be super helpful for me. Then make the Delete Unused playlists to always give the options to delete all playlists in any view regardless of whether they are blank or not.

And yes, I agree that having a Delete Empty Playlist would be helpful. ![]()

Dizzi, thank you! That is correct. I deleted the audio from the last track in the playlist, and then when I select "delete unused..." that track, and only that track, appears on the list. This is handy and explains how to use the feature. The Gods knew what they were doing when they wrote Pro Tools!!

Tope, thank you for the ticket. However, I tried what Dizzi suggested and what you suggested, and I guess it works as intended. If there are clips on a playlist track, it is not considered "unused". Pro Tools makes that determination before letting you delete a track that has audio on it. I thought, incorrectly, that I would determine which I tracks I would want to delete, regardless of there being a clip or not being clip on that track. The way the code is written now errs on the side of safety, so it is very good. What I was proposing would save the step of deleting the clips on a track before deleting "unused" tracks. However, it could like leave a user occasionally regretting a poorly placed mouse click.
I think it works just great the way it is, now that I think I understand the reasoning behind it. thanks again. Fred |
