Default 5.1!!!!!!

Good news everyone! I just came back from the Digi Plug In Clinic and the host from Digi (I think) told me that Version 5.1 will be available around November 7th. Now before you get excited he told me the following things: 1. This will not utilize the altivec engine in the G4 nor will it utilize the multi processor platform but, however, it will run more efficiently and the Midi will be better than before. It will also offer surround sound but I do not know if that is just the TDM Version or what. The upgrade will cost approximately $99.00 for those who have purchased Pro Tools within the last 3-4 months. He also said that there will be another clinic coming in October that will showcase either the 5.1 or just the surround sound aspect of it. Also I couldn't pin him on the subject of increased plug ins but I suspect that might be the case since he told me that 5.1 would greater utilize the CPU. Later. Parlour

$99!! That will definitely p*ss of a LOT of people (including me.) Let's hope Digi decides to do the right thing and does the free upgrade. Let's start complaining now, and maybe our howls will influnce their decision.

This is not a major upgrade. This, I hope, will include a fix to the blunder that us G3 users received by upgrading to 5.0.1,
How can you charge for fixing mistakes. You can charge for making something that works better but not for fixing somthing you sold
to me that's having problems.

I just want more pluggins!BTW,for all you future waves buyers, you might want to wait as there also was a waves rep there and he told me that version 3 of their stuff was soon to be made available. Also I don't exactly know if $99.00 is the official price of the upgrade, but the rep did seem to elude to the fact that we would have to pay for it!

Splash, I have a G3 and just upgraded to 5.01. What is the blunder you are talking about?

Yeah, we're paying for it alright. No time-code ruler, artificial limitation on tracks, no virtual tracks, and no alti-vec support.
Man, Digi is trying their best to cripple the 001 users. Maybe they feel, we'll get fed up and pay the $6-10k upgrade they all want us to buy??

I would gladly pay $99 if they optimized it for Alti Vec. Then we would have a higher plug in count and better overall performance. I bet digi makes more cash off all us 001 owners anyway.
