Default DIY Bass Trap Help!

So I am looking into the most cost effective/ best quality way to make some DIY Bass Traps. As I stand right now, I am going to be purchasing some mineral wool and building a few bass traps that way.

I have a few questions for anyone willing to help.

1) does it matter the type of traps placed on various surfaces. (corners, adjacent walls, ceilings) or can I just make the same design and place it at the problems spots?

2) Is it better to have 4 inch thick rather then 2inch?

3) most importantly. I found this: http://www.homedepot.com/Building-Ma...atalogId=10053

Does anyone think this would work inside of a panel if compacted well? It claims to have acoustic properties and is a fiber. Any thoughts?

1) yes...
2) depends on use, placement, insulation material, etc.
3) that's blow-in insulation, NOT what you want...

Google do-it-yourself acoustical traps, you'll find tons of designs and details. You'll also find outlets for the types of rigid insulation you'll need

Send me a message thru my profile, and I can send you a pdf step by step instructions for building bass traps. I found it thru JohnSayers.com (the ultimate resource for all things acoustic...everything you ever wanted to know and then some)
I just built 10 of them for pretty cheap.

I guess I don't understand why the "Blow in" fiber won't work. If I make a frame for it, a way to hold it in, and compact it, why wouldn't it work? It is mineral wool, the same as the mineral wool board.

A frame rigid enough to hold this type of insulation in place would be acoustically reflective, not allowing the sound wave to enter the insulating material.

Lots of info here.

A couple contributors are acousticians, too, so you can weed out some actual pro advice.

WARNING

You may begin too feel your room is sadly under-treated after reading some of these threads. Often, the advice seems to be to spend more $ on the treatment then on actual gear and that's a hard one to swallow..
