Default MTRX Studio & HD IO delay compensation

Hi all,

I run an HDX2 system with a MTRX Studio for monitoring and 6 HD IO's for recording and hardware inserts. I noticed an empty session has 45 samples of delay compensation when using a combination of the two during recording. It varies slightly, sometimes it's 47.

When I route everything either only to the MTRX or to the HD IO, all tracks have both 0 samples dly and 0 samples cmp. But when I use both, e.g. I route one track to the MTRX Studio and one to the HD IO, the track sending to the MTRX is compensated with 45 samples. This would indicate that the HD IO track has some latency that's being compensated for the MTRX.

Is this normal? Or might that be because of some setting somewhere? The internal renderer is disabled, and would give a much larger delay value. I understand the MTRX' processing has some latency, but I figured this is outside of Pro Tools and would not be considered in PT delay compensation.

I know the MTRX supposed to mimic an HD IO in terms of latency, and maybe that's exactly what it's doing. Is the DA latency of the HDIO larger, and is the MTRX trying to compensate for this?

I know all compensation will be disabled on input tracks during recording, but I'd love to have my start session without any latency and compensation if possible.

Thanks for your insight.

Default Re: MTRX Studio & HD IO delay compensation

Yes, the converter delays between HD IO and MTRX Studio are not identical. No, the MTRX device does not emulate HD IO. In the old days, DAD (NTP) devices would emulate HD MADI and other such DigiLink devices. I'll need to examine the AD DA values for HD IO and Studio to see how they compare exactly.
