2022.10 Not Saving

This has happened to me twice now. I've spent about an hour working on something. Started with blank session, imported audio tracks, began a mix. After about an hour, Pro Tools freezes and I have to force quit. I go to reopen the session and it's completely blank, no files imported. It does make backups in the Session File backups since I have it set to 99/1min. The issue is that The most recent session is blank, so I have to go back to some prior ones. It's not the end of the world but it does mess with workflow a bit. Any ideas?

Well I would try to figure out why it's freezing in the first place - that isn't normal though it does happen to me occasionally. I'd start with looking at a possible plugin causing the freezing.

Also, you might try setting the automatic backups to every 2 minutes - seems like I remember a similar issue I had years ago when changing that setting help with some issues.

This time it froze was because I sent all my tracks to a send that was feeding the sidechain input of Pro L2 (working in Atmos today.) It froze Pro Tools up since I did it while it was playing. Not a lot of plugins really going on other than a couple instances of Pro L2 and SSL Native Bus Comp. Figuring out why it froze isn't the issue for me, it's why Pro Tools didn't save anything in the current session. It just seems like it's an issue I haven't had before 2022.10.

If you're relying on Auto Save, AFAIK, it won't save while the Transport is running, ie, when playing back or recording. My Auto Save is off. I habitually use Ctrl+S to save, frequently.

My left hand's position is always resting on Command + S. I'd say I manually save every 3 -4 minutes But who knows maybe these last two times I forgot to? Weird since this never happened on older versions of Pro Tools, but if no one else is experiencing anything similar I guess we'll have to assume I didn't manually save at all in an hour, which isn't like me but who knows.

To each his/her own. Auto Save has saved my butt more times than I can count. Sometimes I screw up the session somehow and it's nice having those backups to go back to, either the full session or tracks to import audio into.

Yeah sometimes I'm surprised that I haven't manually saved for 45 minutes or so - another reason I'm thankful for the backups. You can look at the time of when the file was last saved to know for sure.

If you are actually manually saving a session with tracks and when reopening it's blank - that's a major problem!
