Default Is MTRX a dead end?

No MTRX cards being manufactured and newer cards not ready for sometime.

Any inside scoop on the future?

Still making cards, there are just supply chain challenges which are causing significant delays.

I'm hearing all kinds of chip supply issues in DANTE world .. as in manufacturers unable to supply new current units for months due to it. The MTRX / MTRX studio seem like a product that will be around for some time to me tho - aside from that temporary issue.

Audinate redesigned their Brooklyn card (used in the MTRX) to work around supply chain issues, presumably they're shipping now:

I work for DAD/NTP so let me chime in on this one. And before you ask, I do NOT have any DAD interface to sell 😉.
The chip shortage is real indeed, and affecting pretty much everybody in the industry. We are however seeing signs of improvement on the majority of components. For example we have had one particular component which was impossible to source 6 months ago. About a month ago we got it offered at $1200 a piece 😱 (normal price is about $20) and now it is down to $800. We have seen a similar development for other components with lower prices and larger quantities becoming available, and expect/hope this trend to continue over the coming months.
Despite the chip shortage, we are shipping products every week. Not as fast as I would like it, but it is ramping up. We still have a huge backlog of orders that will take a few months to clear. There are also some products (in particular MOM) and some option cards that are still suffering from chip shortage.
I would like to thank you all for your patience during these times. I talk to both resellers and end-users daily and hear and understand your frustrations.
That is how it looks from the manufacturing side of things, though I am not sure it will help with your frustrations. Feel free to ask any questions, though I can not provide any firm delivery dates for your order(s).
