Default roland sonic cell and pro tools 7.3

I am wrestling with playing back a standard midi file thru my sonic cell with pro tools 7.3 This is my first sound module with pro tools. I have read the info and my questions are 1) do you need both usb and midi cables connected to send midi data 2) What are the correct settings for the setup midi screen. 3)how do you monitor the midi tracks ie use an aux track or is using an instrument track a better choice.

It appears that protools has recognized the sonic cell but the midi data is not getting to the sonic cell. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
