Default Digi 002 studio setup questions

I have some ideas about how I want to setup my future studio... thought I'd post them here to see if anyone has tried them before and how it works out.

I'm putting together a new computer to run PT, and I'm keeping my existing computer. My plan is to install Reason 2.5 on the existing computer, and then hook it up via SPDIF and MIDI to sync with the PT computer. So I'm wondering how that would work... can I go into the SPDIF of the 002 and have it synced with the audio tracks... My main reason is so that I don't need to invest in good DA on the existing computer, just use the DA in the 002. (do this until rewire)

My other question... I'm going to outgrow the 8 AD inputs eventually... how's the performance with adding additional AD and recording 16 tracks at a time. Anybody doing this successfully on the Allen speced PC?

I'm probably going to order my computer this weekend, with the 002 shortly thereafter... just wondering if these are crazy ideas that I'm just going to be beating my head against the wall trying to get working...

Default Re: Digi 002 studio setup questions

I have a swissonic AD24 I got for 625.00, its a good ad. I also picked up the DA24 from swissonic for mixdown, I run everything through a 16 channel outboard mixer from my 002. I use the preamps on the board now for inputs 4-8, I then have some other pre's running direct through the converters. Pretty good setup. I have recorded a few live shows with nearly a hitch. My computer is self made and is a xp 1800+ running on a msi nforce motherboard with 768mb of DDR 266 memory. Its not really up to snuff on what is current but I don't see the need to upgrade I have been able to record a total of 16 tracks all together. I don;t have a second AD stereo converter to try the spdif I/O. I may get the lucid unit and try that. I would reccomend the Swissonic units whole heartedly they also make a ad unit with 8 mic pres the AD8. I found these converters superior to the chinese made Focusrite Octopre or Digimax LT offerings.
