Default OT: OSX Loosing Date and time settings

Hi,

Yesterday and today, when i booted my system, i've got an error message telling me that my date and time were wrong (it was set to 1969).
I am wondering what can the the cause of this?
Is it a battery on the G5 motherboard? Is it software only?
Do i have to worry?

Anyone have a clue?
system info: G5 dual 2.5 10.4.9, PT 7.4

Thanks!

Luc

Yes its the battery! if i remember the G5 is a small round battery about 1 inch long, it should be obvious if you pop the side down and peep in.

That's the main reason why you shouldn't have your CPU on a power source that gets switched off when the rest of your gear does - it should only be running the battery when the wall power is cut off. That's usually what causes a motherboard battery to die prematurely, although with an eight-year-old CPU, it was bound to happen eventually.

Unplug your iloks until you know the date is correct!!

Really, this could hurt my iloks? Thanks for the advice!
Yeah, it's an old CPU but like a wise man said, i'm holding fast!!!

Cant wait to change it for a Mac Pro, will do it as soon as some new TDM cards will get launched. Well, i hope so

Buy it online. Radio Shack will charge you 800% for it in the store. They used to best place to get batteries. Not anymore. I only go there for the "I need it now" batteries. Don't even get me started on how they sell soldering irons with tips that are replaceable, but they don't sell the replacement tips. This is their own rebranded product by the way!
