Default Midi Device Patch Auditioning without menus?

Is there a way to select a midi device patch without having to go into the device and then the patchlist menu with the mouse, selecting a patch, and doing that over and over until I find a patch I like?
I am not new to PT, but have typically used DP for Midi.
Is there a way to keep the device patch list menu open and step through my synth patches using a keyboard short cut or up/down arrows?

Each dev really implements this in their own way. If you're lucky enough to use a plug-in that implements the PT Plug-in settings protocol, you can look at the top of the plug-in, click the small "box behind a box" icon to the left of the COMPARE button, and it will display a list that you can arrow your way through. Start with a PT-provided VI, like Xpand!2, so you can see how it works.

But... loads of plugin developers (especially with VIs) don't conform to this spec and have decided their own way is better. In this case, you have to figure out how they've implemented their preset selector and see if there's a good way to navigate it.

Unless you mean external MIDI instruments? There's a segment in the manual about that.
