Distorted Sound on Auxes

32 track session, the mix engineer mixed a bunch of the tracks, mostly drum and guitar tracks too hot. Right up at unity. They are all limited, and so is the master fader, but the sound is distorted. I need to bring down all the faders in the session equally, to maintain the mix. But there is volume automation on some of them so just pulling down faders is out. Is there a way to pull down evey track in the song quickly, while maintaining the volume automation, but just lowering all the values?

Select the group "all" in the edit window, put all track views in "volume" and "big." Then select the length of the song, and use the trimmer tool to lower the overall level of all tracks simultaneously. This will preserve the automation. You can also go through and do this for other types of automation. Be careful though, this is a picky process, sometimes it will make new breakpoints at the end of your selected region.
