Default 192 I/O question?

Hi - thinking of upgrading to a 192 interface with a HD2 system.

I currently have a Mix3 with 888|24, ADAT bridge (using both ports from a Giga PC) and a 1622. I NEVER use all 40 inputs simultaneously. I am thinking of keeping the 1622 and selling the rest

It is my understanding that I can put a legacy interface onto the 192 and have up to 32 simultaneous channels of I/O at up to 48K, yes?

Can I mix and match inputs?

Can I do this (simultaneously) with a stock 192:

14 channels of 1622 in on legacy port
2 channels of s/pdif I/O on the 1622 legacy port

8 channels of lightpipe in on the 192
8 channels of AES/EBU out (using multipin breakout)

6 channels of +4 analog I/O (using multipin breakout)
2 channels of AES/EBU I/O on the 192 interface

Can i do the mix and match (lightpipe in/aes out?) as long as it adds up to 32?

Someone told me this was possible...

your insight is appreciated.

thanks,

cpd

You are correct in that a single HD card can see up to 32-channels of I/O where the MIX series was 16channels. There is a legacy port on the 192 that does allow for up to 16 channels of the 1622, 888, etc to be connected. Obviously, you'll need the Ycable adaptor at this point. While I've not personally tried this, I see no reason why it won't work. In your ProTools I/O configuration area, you can assign what channels of what interface are going to what, where, when, and how Oh great, now I'M confused!!!!

Everybody is right. Actually, it's pretty self explanatory when you see the HD hardware setup window. You can choose which "Digilink pairs" from the card are functioning on what inputs and outputs. It's very simple, really. To make one correction for Brad, you won't need a Y-cable for the 1622, only if you're trying to use 2x 8 channel i/o's. Good luck.
