Default cant make pro tools receive m-audio keyboard signal

Hey

I am trying to make pro tools 10 receive my midi keyboard signal : m-audio axiom pro 49.

In pro tools, if I do setup>peripherals> HUI + 3 - Axiom pro 49 midi in + Axiom pro 49 midi out, I get the error : "Pro tools is unable to communicate with HUI. Power-cycl HUI and check its...."
Same with setup>peripherals> M-audio + 3 - Axiom pro 49 midi in + Axiom pro 49 midi out, same error message.
If I choose setup>peripherals> M-audio + 3 - Axiom pro 49 USB A in + Axiom pro 49 midi out, I get the same error message but I can start and play the tracks playing from the keyboard buttons.

I am on windows 7 with pro tools 10.
M-audio driver from https://m-audio.com/support/download...er-5.10.0.5134.
Asio4all 2.15 and Quicktime 7.7.9.
Also, I don't hear any sound when I play the default projects in pro tools.
Device manager in windows lists M-Audio Axiom pro 49.

Thank you all.

What are you trying to do? And what instructions/tutorial are you following?

Setup>Peripherals is about configuring MIDI/HUI control surfaces not MIDI keyboards.

You should be looking on YouTube or similar places for introructorty tutorials on how to setup and use a MIDI keyboard with Pro Tools (on Windows) and following along exactly with that tutorial until you have stuff working. There is too much here for you to be successful by just randomly trying stuff. If you are trying to play MIDI into a virtual instrument find a tutorial specifically for doing that, ideally withPro Tools 10 or a close version of Pro Tools.

There is no sound associated with MIDI instruments until you route the MIDI correctly into a virtual instrument plugin, and have all that set up properly, again you need to follow a tutorial to get started.

And if you are following some instructions/tutorials and stuff is not working, than come back here, provide a link to the instructions you are following, describe exactly what is not working and folks can help out.

Indeed, as Darryl said, Peripherals is NOT where you setup your midi keyboard. This gets done in Setup>Midi>Midi Studio. Create a new "instrument" and name it as you like. As for brand and model; select these if you find your keyboard, but these 2 choices are not required(can be left blank). The next selection is the crucial one and that is Input Path. Clicking on that(assuming you have installed the proper driver) should reveal the(probable) only choice(it will probably look something like " M-Audio Axiom pro 49 on USB[Emulated]" but without the quotes). In any case, it should be obvious. Midi channels can all be selected(as they are by default).

As for hearing sound, remember that a midi keyboard makes no sound of its own. Create a stereo instrument track, insert MiniGrand(for testing) in slot A and put the track into record-ready. If everything is correct, playing the keyboard SHOULD give you the sound of MiniGrand(piano). If that works, then delete the track and repeat with whatever VI plugin you wish.

If you hear no sound at all, what are you using as an "audio interface"? I see you list ASIO4ALL and that can be a PITA to get working. Also, if you are trying to use the on-board sound card of your PC, while it SHOULD work, it may not. Using a dedicated recording interface is likely to be a better option in the long run(but you need to pay attention to what will work with your old PC, Windows 7 and PT 10).

Welcome to DUC
Uninstall Asio4all 2.15 – you don’t need it with Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and Axiom_Pro_Installer_6_0_3_Driver_5_10_0_5134

In Pro Tools Setup menu>Preferences>MIDI>Default Thru Instrument:
Tick ‘Follows First Selected MIDI Track’

In Pro Tools Setup menu>Options:
Tick ‘MIDI Thru’

In Pro Tools Setup menu>MIDI>MIDI Input Devices>MIDI Input Enable:
Tick ‘Axiom Pro 49 HyperControl In’

In Pro Tools Setup menu>MIDI>MIDI Studio Setup:
Instrument Name: New Instrument 1
Manufacturer: None
Model: None
Input Port: None
Output Port: Axiom Pro 49 HyperControl Out

In Pro Tools Setup menu>Peripherals>MIDI Controllers:
Type: M-Audio Keyboard
Receive From: Axiom Pro 49 HyperControl In
Send To: Axiom Pro 49 HyperControl Out

Save your Pro Tools Session>(Alt+F4) to quit
Restart computer
Launch Pro Tools

If you’ve done a full install of Apple QuickTime 7, uninstall it, run the free CCleaner and CCleaner Registry ‘Scan for Issues’ (save when prompted).
Repeat Scan until no more issues are found, exit CCleaner, restart computer then only install QuickTime Essentials, as explained here:
Installing the bare minimum QuickTime Components Required for Pro Tools:

https://www.pro-tools-pc.com/windows...ng-phone-home/

Windows Data Collecting And Phone Home Features Part 2:
https://www.pro-tools-pc.com/data-co...-phone-home-2/

PS – if you ever want to go to Windows 10, don’t use a fresh install of Windows 10 if you want to keep using your Axiom Pro 49.
Instead, Google:
"Windows 7 to Windows 10 with all files intact"
This will allow you to keep using Axiom Pro 49, which is not supported in Windows 10.
Just pick the version of W10 that matches your W7: Home for Home and Pro/Ultimate for Pro.

My typing's too slow!

Just read albee1952's Posts - please excuse my repetition - I decided to leave my entire "snail-Post", anyway ...

unkJE did add some important stuff, so thanks for that! Its important specifically because the OP messed with things that didn't need to be changed, so getting those settings back to default state is always a good idea

Hey everyone,

thanks a lot for your help.
I have decided to buy a sound card Focusrite. Now I can manage to have sound.
Thanks you I have made Hypercontrol work.
I am still not really sure how to customize it though.
Also why just install the bare essentials for Quiktime ?

Thanks a lot
