High Sierra TEST with APFS and PT 12.8
Hi!
I just want to inform you that i successfully TESTED Pro Tools 12.8 on the High Sierra public BETA on a TEST SYSTEM with the new APFS disk format! Pro Tools, iLok, plugins, sessions, projects, Cloud Collaboration work as it should. The OS is of course (its BETA!!!) buggy here and there, macOS needs significant less space than before. So far so good. I'm confident that High Sierra and/or APFS will not break Pro Tools this fall. Again, this is a TEST situation on a TEST system, don´t try it on a system with important data! And don't blame Avid when it doesn't work! ;-) Even don´t blame Apple if your system breaks, use it on your own risk! And/or have fun beta testing!

Re: High Sierra TEST with APFS and PT 12.8
I can confirm this as well! I have an iMac and a Macbook Pro. The iMac stays on stable releases while the macbook pro gets to have fun with Betas. I did notice that Ozone 5 is not launching on High Sierra though . Hope this gets patched soon!

Re: High Sierra TEST with APFS and PT 12.8
Any more news on this?
High Sierra will be available in a couple of days and as I am running the last version of pro tools (12.8.1) im worried that it doesn't work. Thanks!

Unless you've imaged your hard drive, once you convert from HFS to APFS, there's no turning back, so this is not an update to be taken lightly. Wait for the dust to settle, and let the rest of the early adopters on the DUC share their success or horror stories. I don't make money on Pro Tools, but any normal studio that depends on Pro Tools to pay the bills will be waiting for several weeks/months before updating.

Re: High Sierra TEST with APFS and PT 12.8
Received a new MacBook Pro today (refurbished MBP retina 15” mid 2014) and it had High Sierra installed. Thought it was worth a try to keep it at that OS as it’s primarily a Smaart/FuzzMeasure machine and they both seem fine on it.
Pro Tools HD Native 12.8.1 seems to be opening my current projects and running ok. Haven’t completed the install of all plugs as yet though. So far, no issues, however I am certainly not going to upgrade my main studio PT systems until the dust has settled. |

Re: High Sierra TEST with APFS and PT 12.8
Don´t try this at home lol.
Wondering if my PT 12.7.1 will work with this. Also, will my Metric Halo ULN8 + software plus other apps remain functioning on High Sierra? As far as I know, there is one user here with the ULN 8 interface so I will be eagerly lurking to see what hell this guy will go through (forgot his name, seen him only briefly). Standby.

Overall though the system feels workable, and, maybe it’s confirmation bias, but actually more solid than my other machines. (Note I haven’t used this install for long though.) [Update two days later, both the Massey and SyFi plugs are now ok - appeared to be a failed install process] Last edited by teedeecee; 09-28-2017 at 06:06 PM. |
