Default 002R as monitor/mixer?

Guys,

I'm thinking about upgrading from an Mbox1 to a 002R. Is it possible to use the 8 inputs on the 002R as a mixer without PTLE running? I want to run a few things like guitar and keyboards into it and monitor them but not necessarily have PT running. Basically like a simple mixer.

Thanks

You can do that with the Digi002 but not the Digi002R. The Digi002 control surface version can run in standalone mode and the faders work like a mixer. The 002R has no faders and no stand alone mode. Strangely this was a seldom used feature on the 002R and therefore the stand alone mode was removed on the Digi003.

For the extra money to get the 002 instead of the 002R, you can get a relative inexpensive mixer from Mackie, Yamaha, etc. (We tend to frown on Behringer products on this forum but it fits a budget range)

Thanks :)

That's a shame, the Mbox can still monitor the inputs without PT running.

I already have a Yamaha MG10/2 mixer but wonder if it colours the sound at all, hence the upgrade to the 002R. Perhaps I should just run the Yamaha mixer into my Mbox instead, seems a waste to get the 002R if I can't monitor the inputs w/out PTLE running.

They ALL color the sound in some small way, but I doubt it will affect your work. I would patch the Yamaha mixer outputs to the ALt inputs on the 002r(L&R RCA inputs on the back). Just hit the Alt to Mon button to listen to anything plugged into the mixer. Simple, yet elegant....
