Dynamic Plug-In Processing is broken [PT-279941]

The Dynamic plugin Processing does not work as advertised on audio tracks.

In an empty session, load up 16-60 instances of your favorite CPU hog plugin across 16 or more audio channels. Load enough so you can see a decent amount of cpu usage in the meter... wait for the cpu spike to return to normal.

Press play and the cpu meter will jump up and not return to null until you press stop.

-- Don't use Slate VMR, MeldaProduction or SoundDeviceDigital plugins b/c they have dynamic processing built into them.

Avid, Waves, Plugin Alliance, TDR etc. don't ever save CPU cycles... and are active the entire time the transport is playing.

Speculation: Are any of the plugins that remain active generating noise? Turn off all "analog" noise, in PA plugs it's V-Gain.

Maybe even 24-bit dither could be leaving a plug on?

No analog emu's on.

Issue will be present with any avid plugins, I used the pro comp and pro limiter.
I used 16 st tracks and about 3 instances of each on all 16 tracks

I believe that ticked my i7 imac to about 30% @44.1 with 128 buffer.

Ouch... we should all test this before any false alarms. Did you load a prior version to 2021.6 to do this test with the same session?

One thing to remember is that plugins won't be "released" until 8-10 seconds of blank(and "blank" means no audio clip, not just a clip showing no wave)

That's just it - they don't release... ever. Plugins fire up to full blast on empty audio tracks when the transport in engaged.

Use a completely brand new 32 audio track empty session. Load up a bunch of AVID plugs (enough to give a clear visual on the system meter). Hit play.

yes, it is not working as advertised in 2021.6 nor (i dare to say) any previous version from 2020. So it is a long standing lack of 'feature'. Shall we all report this so it will get the spotlight ADC on sends got that got 'fixed'?

Afaik it depends on the plugin, but by far most of them don't work.

One that actually does work is Acon Digital Verberate and I believe Phoenixverb. But that's just 2 out of 18 tested (including a lot of Avid plugins). Tests are done on tracks, not auxes (for testing purpose).

/edit, running PT Ultimate 2019.6, but it's been like this since I remember. 2021.6 didn't break anything, it never worked in the first place.

can confirm this one. Not working here either. With stock AVID Plug-Ins.
