Default 6045 errors

I've just upgraded to a new G4/533 and am using PT 5.1. Everything is cool EXCEPT I keep getting these DAE-6045 errors. It's a real pain in the ass. I checked the database and it says that this error has only been found on biege G3s!! What to do?!! HELP!

Andy

Not only G3s. I have a G4/466/384 and also got that "wonderful" error message. But it only occurs when recording more than 12 tracks at once for over 2 minutes at 24 bit and 48kHz on my audio drive(internal 40GB). I rarely record more than 6 tracks at once but I did the following to prevent the error from showing up:
a.) I increased the DAE memory to 80000 and the PT memory to 50000.
b.) I changed the playback buffer size to 4 and added 9216k to the System Memory.
c.) When recording a large amount of tracks at once, I record on the System Disc. Eventhough this is not recomended, I have never had any problems at all and just throw the session to the audio hard drive after the recording and continue from there. My system never slows down like stated in the handbook. Don´t worry, try it.
d.) I set my "Open Ended Record Allocation to "Limit To 60 minutes". Go: Setups-Preferences-Operation.
e.) I also tried to set the "Disk Allocation to "Use round robin allocation for new tracks".and "Include System Volume" Then the recorded tracks are split up between the 2 drives. Also works great!
Go: Setups-Disk Allocation.

Hope this helps!
Greetings,
George

P.S. Happy to answer mails too

George,

Thanks for the detailed reply - really appreciated.

I will try all that you suggested, but there seems to be one big difference. I've been getting the error messages during playback (NOT just record). Did you have this as well? I was certainly aware that it had something to do with no. of tracks (all the songs it happens on have more than 12 tracks!) I had already increased the DAE and PT memory as you did, and the buffer size, but will try the other suggestions.

Thanks again

Cheers

Andy

PS: How do you add 9216k to the system memory?

I am also experiencing the error 6045. I never ever saw it running the PT LE 5.0 I can get the error with 2 tracks or 20 it does'nt seem to matter. I contacted Digi and they gave me the standard list of things to try including Zap Pram, Rebuild Desktop, run the OS base extensions, move the Digi card to the lowest # slot, trash the digi preferences, clean install of os 9.02 or .04. Reinitalize system drive
I have done everything short of the clean install and reinitalize the system drive. I find it difficult to believe that this will solve the problem as everything worked fine with LE 5.0 one day and the next day I can't play or record for 3 minutes without the error. I have tried the suggestions listed in the above posts except recording to the system drive. Any other suggestions or ideas would be appreciated. Thank You
stock 9600/350
OS 9.0
Extention Set (less than os9.0 base, worked with LE 5.0) bare minimuim (Conflict Catcher)
IBM 18 Gig internal hard drive for audio (partitioned x3) Apple drive setup
Exclaim VR monitor card
3rd party Plugins (Channel Strip & Real Verb)
ps. I do understand and have worked with the limitations of this older computer

Shawn,
I have been toying with the idea of OS 9.1but was uncertain because of the digi post saying 9.1 was uncompatable with 9600/350. I also have a sonnet G3/500 card I am trying to install but it will not boot. I figure if I can get the new card to work I will upgrade to 9.1. Thank you for the suggestion and I will let you know how it works out.
Mike

I found out that recording to the system drive gives me more tracks to record at once, eventhough it is not recomended, try it! At 48kHz I get the -6045 errors and I´ve done everything under the sun to avoid them. I don´t get the errors recording at 44.1 and I sofar never got them at playback either. ANDY, system memory can be added by highlighting the system folder, then information pulldown and set the memory higher.
Still I beleive it´s a bug in PT LE 5.1, sucks pretty bad, I agree.
Greetings, George

MjLj, I have an 8600, and I have found (with the help of Coaster) that I get the best overall performance with OS 9.1. You may want to try it, even though it is not suggested by Digi. Moving to 9.1 got rid of most of my -6045 errors. Last night I got the first one in over a month.

George,

Seems like you're the only one with a similar setup getting this problem. I'm in Japan, an the local digi support told me that they think it could be an OS problem connected with the new Macs. God knows! He said he's had some people with (different problems) that got fixed after a clean re-install of the OS. I may give it a try - can't hurt!!

BTW, when I highlight my System folder there is no memory pulldown!! Any ideas?

Thanks and cheers

Andy

OK, so the 6045 bug isn't just for Beige G3's. If guys with G4's are getting them, it has to be a DIGI problem.

Here is my scenario: I was running toolbox xp with PTLE 5.01, it works perfect. I decided to upgrade to 001 for ADAT i/o capabilities. I simply relplaced the cards and started up. It worked fine all week. not one 6045 problem.

This week I decided to reinstall the OS and all software and now as often as every few seconds!!!!!! I got errors!!!!!!. I can't figure out what changed. Is it as simple as extesions, init?

Some guys with Beige G3's don't have problems others do, what is the deal?

Beige G3 266 upgraded with Newer G4/400
512 MB Ram
6 gig IDE system
36 gig internal SCSI
OS 9.0
