Default Dock with S1 fader and encoders !?

Hey,

I was wondering if there will EVER be an upgrade to the dock with the same fader and the same encoders as the S1, so that booth controllers will be a true match.

It's astonishing that they still use the poor fader from the Artist Mix / Control series for the dock and the encoders are also not as smooth as the ones from the S1.

So, any plans?

The Dock is the same fader as S1 and S3. The encoders are from the S3 though. We are always looking at how we can improve things and will take this into account.

That's interesting ... But I guess this hasn't always been the case as the Dock was released before the S1, right?

I tested the S1 and the Dock at a colleague's studio and the Dock definitely had a different fader than the S1. So I assume he had one of the early versions with an old Artist Mix fader?

Yes, Dock was released before S1, but that's irrelevant.

I've taken apart many artist series for at-home repairs. The faders are completely different mechanisms between artist series and dock/s1/s3, always have been. Your colleague must have damaged his Dock.

I hate to say it but they are all the same Alps fader. They may look different due to the mounting, cable vs direct solder etc.

The board mounted fader is what I assumed to be and feel different. Very glad they’re interchangeable now. Sorry for my assumption, OP.

The faders in these units are junk.....many have been asking for quality faders for years that are only installed in the S6 or other company units.

They are only 'junk' when compared to an S6 fader, you would be surprised at how many different Control Surfaces both old and new use these, both at Avid and our competition. The faders are low profile unlike the S6 ones which are 2 inches deep. They also cost much less, hence why the S6 costs a lot more. I wish there was a reasonably priced, low profile fader we could use instead but I havent found one yet.

Bought a dock and s1 unit lately. While the transport buttons feels the same like on the s1 the mute/solo buttons on the dock feels wobbly and loose. Is it normal or should the mute/solo the same as the transport buttons? just curious.
