Default So...what about our 32 Bit plugins?

Are we gonna have to run PT 11 in 32 Bit mode to use them or will there be a bridge to use them in 64 Bit mode? Several of my plugins (like Massey) are still 32 Bit only!

There is no PT11 32bit mode, and no 32bit bridge either. Until the plugin manufacturer releases a 64bit AAX version you'll have two choices ....

1) Use a different plugin, or
2) Run PT10 and use the 32bit plugin.

Those are the only options available to you.

I'm sure the 32-bit settings will open in the new 64-bit version for project compatibility.

Do you mean plugin settings or the 32bit AAX version of the plugin?

If it's the latter, that is not the case. It has been stated MANY times already by AVID that everything is 64bit in PT11 and plugins have to be recompiled for that. As stated above, 32bit versions of AAX plugins WILL NOT WORK within PT11.

Plug in settings yes.

Any 32bit AAX plugins will need to be recompiled for 64bit AAX. RTAS and 32bit AAX will not run in PT11 as the new Avid Audio Engine is 64bit only.

if the plugin maker has both a 32bit AAX version and a 64bit AAX version, they will open and read each others' settings.

Of course. Same should apply with RTAS as well according to AVID.

That's not what the OP was asking though and hence I was clarifying if the poster was referring to settings or the actual plugin itself. The latter won't be the case.

I'm sure existing 32-bit AAX plugins are ported to 64-bit very fast, most probably are ready when PT11 is released. That is nothing to worry about.

But what I do worry about is in fact the 32-bit AAX plugins that are required for PT10 -- how long will PT10 be supported, plugin-wise?

My initial reply is true ... the OP question related to whether he could open a 32bit plugin in PT11. Avid has already said that existing AAX 32bit plugins must be ported to 64bit for them to open in PT11.

But yes, the additional comments are a useful extra, that settings made in the 32bit version and saved out will be able to be loaded in the 64bit version.

Wow there would be ructions if that didn't work. Rants a plenty!

That's a very interesting question and something I hadn't even thought of.

One would hope it would be supported long enough that by the time they might cease working on AAX32, everyone would be able to work in PT11 and not need PT10 at all. I notice NI still have RTAS equivalents of their plugins which is good for those still on PT9.

Would suck though for those that won't be making the jump to PT11 for whatever reason.
