Hi, do you have meters going within Pro Tools? Also, can you get level from the headphone jack out?

Post your whole configuration, so we can help more...

you should be fine. as far as i know all 002 flavs are "seen" as mbox2's in the system prefs. you need to hook your speakers up to the monitor outs of the 002.

have you opened pt yet?

That's correct, the 002 and 002R don't show up within Mac's Preferences, however the MBox 2 will (same as video cards etc.) I take it the original poster did connect cables!?!

yea i connected the monitors to the 002 but it still wont play back sound iam brand new with this thing whenever i start up protools the thing that shows up on it are L and R on the top of the sample rate button stuff so i am confused...and also when i try to open the mbox 2 thing it says connecting for a bit the says unable to connect mbox 2 so i am like wtf...and then i know since i have the intel based mac that i have the option of using opticals...do you think i should go get some of those? then also ive just plugged in the 002 with the firewire cable will that do the job to get the monitors to work?also i have a fantom x8 which i connected to the midi port and connected it to input 6 with another jack for listening....how does that transfer data and stuff and my akg mic? does it automatically recognize it as i play live? and how do i know its working?

I know this may sound daft, but have you released the mute button, if it is red then your output is muted. Is the volume up? are your speakers on, if they are active? Do you have amp if the speaker are not?

The DIGI002 will show up under Sound preferences and it will show up in Audio MIDI Setup. If the 002 is on and the firewire cable is connected then you should see it in both those places. If the 002 isn't connected properly then you won't be able to launch ProTools.

For the Fantom to be really useful within ProTools you need to connect it using both the MIDI in and MIDI out ports, and then set the keyboard to NOT follow local control (it could also be called keyboard tracking or something like that). Basically, this seperates the actual "keyboard" from the synth so that when you play keys, the MIDI info is sent out to the 002 and ProTools where it can be recorded. ProTools will then send the MIDI info back to the "synth" portion of the Fantom to create sound.. You also need to connect the audio from the Fantom to the 002, like you mentioned on inputs 5-6.

You also need to go into Audio MIDI Setup and get your Fantom to be recognized as a MIDI source and a MIDI destination. I'm not going in to the details of this, but Apple makes it fairly easy....

I wouldn't mess around with the optical ports, that will just make things more complicated at this point

As far as your monitors working, it should be easy to test...

You said you have a mic? OK plug that into one of the mic XLR inputs (use channel 1 for simplicity) , and if the mic requires phantom power, turn that on around the back

Your monitors should be connected to the MON OUTPUT L-R and the MUTE button turned off. Make sure the volume on the monitors is set to a reasonably low level

Next make a new session in ProTools with these settings:

Make one mono Audio Track. It should default to having Mic/Line 1 as it's input and Analog 1-2 as it's output.

Make a stereo Mastertrack so you can check the levels on the main outs.

At this point if you record enable the track (red R), you should get activity on the meters and hopefully sound out from the monitors.

it sounds like you are talking about a using a y splitter to combine the stereo output from the fantom into a single input on the 002? I would not recommend doing this. If that's the only cable you have, just use the left output on the fantom.

Get a couple of 1/4" to 1/4" TRS cables and use those. I don't know if the fantom has balanced outputs, but if it does you'll get a signal with less noise. If the outputs are unbalanced then you'll still be OK..
