Re: How do I duplicate properly?
Sorry I should have said... the selector tool is the one that looks like a vertical line. Use it to select the area to be duplicated on the grid, not just the region.

Re: How do I duplicate properly?
Use The Selector Tool, Not The Hand. In This Instance, The "Hand" Would Select The Region (Depending On The "Modifier" Key, Option, Shift, Control, Command, The Hand Has Different Functions) If The Region Is Shorter/Longer Than The Bar, And You Duplicate, The Region Will Fall Out Of Sync With The Tempo Map Of Your Track. If You Have A Mouse That Can "Right" Click, Right Click, You Will See The List Of Tool's In The Float Menu That Appears....

Re: How do I duplicate properly?
Or, use the Grabber tool (hand), and relative grid mode set to 1 bar resolution, and Option+click'n'drag the region.
So, if the original region starts at 45|2|779, the copy will be placed at x|2|779 (x is whatever bar you drag it to) - it stays locked in its relative position to the grid. With a grid resolution of 1/4, the copy will be placed at x|y|779 (x is the bar/ y is the beat). Get it? Hard to explain, easy to do.

Re: How do I duplicate properly?
I constantly switch between the two. I tend to use Absolute for MIDI, and Relative for audio. I hardly ever separate audio on the grid, so that's why Relative mode is so handy to have. Combine Relative grid mode and the Object grabber, and you can copy regions from all over the place in one go.
