Default How about a plug that fixes clipping?

For quite a while now I've been thinking
that it would be great to have an AudioSuite plug in that can repair a
clipped soundfile. It seems to me that
mild clipping could be easily repaired
by lowering the level of the soundfile slightly and interpolating and redrawing the clipped portion of the waveform. Considering how horrible-sounding and
irrevocable digital clipping is, I'm suprised that such a thing doesn't exist.
Or maybe it does? Or maybe I'm just dreaming? Feel free to enlighten me if
you feel it's necessary. Peace and happy
holidays to all!

You can sort-of acomplish this by running the file through a limiter and lowering the level until it rounds out the edges of the clipped peaks. It's a bit drastic but it does work.

Kev,

Yeah, I've done that. But of course the
operative phrase is "one or two clips".

Bomb Factory makes a Clip Remover for $99 list. I haven't tried it yet. Anybody else?

Bomb factory lists that they sell one - and have done for some time - it's even listed in the Digi Dev Plug In guide.

But can you buy it, does it exsist? - NOPE.

However, if Bomb Factory would like to prove me wrong, please do so!!!

m.

SK's useage of a limiter for 'rounding' can get through the "harsh" distortion though.

Or you could just lower your recording input levels...thus preventing the clipping from ever occuring!!!!!!!!

Always a choice...when its a choice. However when your source comes cliped 'taint nothin you can do but try to fix before the mix.

This is true, of course tactfully informing the client what the problem is and how many hours it will take to correct it (redrawing all those clipped peaks) might just help preventing it (at least from them) in the future. I like using the "Well, doing one or two more takes would have taken maybe 10 minutes, but this will be 3 hours for me to correct" analogy.
