High Memory Usage - PT 2021.3

Hi, I've noticed that if I open some sessions the memory usage goes up to 30%. But if I manually deactivate the plugins the memory remains fixed at 30%.

If I close the session, Memory usage is still 30%. If I reboot protools Memory goes back to minimum percentages.

I think this could affect memory load on other sessions. It doesn't free up memory.

This is not unknown and isn't tied to PT itself. Some plugins just don't release memory like they should. What operating system are you using?

I'm using Catalina 15.7 - PT 2021.3 on a Mac Pro 2019 12 Core / 48gb Ram

I've never noticed this thing in my previous system

What was your previous system?
Like I said this isn't strictly a PT problem. What else do you have running when working in PT?

Is this what mac Activity Monitor reports? If not, check there also.

My system was using 14.4 GiB of ram w/out PT open. Opened PT and it went to 15.78Gib holding steady. Opened one of the largest sessions I have, and it went to 17.4 GiB. Make sure you don't have anything else opened, i.e. browsers, Apple Music/iTunes... etc... Especially FireFox... that's a memory hog!

14.4 gig without PT open? Windows or Mac? You must have something else running hogging memory. This is on the system in my profile.


I'm seeing 5.63 gig with just MacMail and Firefox open. As measured in OSX Activity Monitor. With PT open and a 25+ minute 42 track session open the memory load is 15 gig.

See my sig block.... As Darryl said, I'm not hung up over it. Each system allocates memory differently.

No it’s the memory usage display of PT

It’s not my case cause if I close and reboot Protools without changing anything else in the system...memory goes back to minimum levels.

I think its a fight with some Acustica Audio Plugin. If I deactivate one memory goes down. My problem is that after closing the session PT still shows high memory usage based on that Acustica Audio plugin. It doesn’t release the ram.
