Default volume automation

Is there a way to get the transitions of a volume curve smoother at the beginning and the end of a region when you pull down the volume line with the trimmer tool ? Without doing it manually ?
Any tricks or shortcuts ? Thanks for any suggestions.

make a small selection on the curve and hit "x". This will draw a linear line in the range of the selection.

Obviously there is no automatic way of doing this.
On the other hand: since there is no audio before and after the region, what to you want to smooth out there in the first place?

thanks for your answer , if I have a voice over I select the region of the voice file , move the selection down to a aux fader and pull the master of the rest down , but the selector tool draws a vertical line and i have to edit it afterwards.

The quickest way I know is the one i mentioned above. I don´t see a way how this could be done automatically. There´s no way for the machine to know how long or in what way (linear, or some crazy curve) you want to smooth out the transition.
Another option is the "glide to" option but it´s more complex to apply than the method I mentioned.

Yes!!! Thanks man. I always did it by hand!

But I think DIGI could implement something different here. I think we could have a preference for making a very small smooth volume curve at the beginning and the end of a region when you pull down the volume line with the trimmer tool. That would be GREAT. I can not see a reason why this works like this...

Anyway, thanks.

Agreed. It would be similar to the auto fade in/out preference that exists now, with a user-defineable slope time. Both features can get rid of unwanted glitches, clicks and pops.

Chris... Steve McMillan shared that on the DUC about 2 years ago, and your response was Exactly the way I felt when I read it then. There is a guy in Austin who has shared a lot of knowledge with me over the years.. when I showed him that one, he was so impressed with the amount of time it would save him over the rest of his career, he said "let's call it even".
