stereo tracks, mono tracks--thoughts

i do alot of synth track layering and was curious on how others are tracking their music--mono tracks or stereo, or both. when using live instruments, i like multiple use of mono, but when using only synths, I tend to use mostly stereo tracks--especially when layering strings, piano, horns, drums, etc. I was just wondering if anyone has any tips when recording many synth tracks. i do not have any external preamps, only the 001.

also, if you have any tips to improve sound quality of an tracks recorded by a synth, chime in please.
