Lexicon for sure. Kurzweil as a company has been on the ropes for a little while now and I'd hestiate buying anything of theirs - if they go under, any warranty or support would probably be hard to come by.

If you're using an LE interface, you know that you'll have to deal with the latency issue of using an external reverb right? I use my MPX-500 for vocalists when they track, but only for monitoring. I originally bought back when I had an 001 thinking I could use it as an external reverb send via S/PDIF, but even at the lowest 128 buffer setting the latency really messed up the sound of the reverb, I don't recommend it personally, but if you do your bounces through an external mixer and use the reverb as an aux send on that mixer you'll be fine.

Oh, and in the future you can just add to your old thread, no need to start a new one.

Before you buy a Lexicon, check to make sure that the digital connections work properly for the Chorus sounds. Maybe I'm the only one with this experience because I have never heard anyone else with this issue, but I bought a unit (2xx model), took it home, played with it, everything's fine, then I hook it up digitally to my 001. Everything worked fine (with a lot of latency) except sounds with the Chorus effect. I took it back to the shop, tested it with a CD player in the store with digital out, same problem. Everythin was fine when going analog, but when going digital...The clerk then took out every single unit and tested them and they all had the same problem, about four of them, I think. Just be sure to check.

I've heard nothing but praise for Kurzweil's Rumor and Mangler units.

FWIW, Kurzweil has been one of those companies, like Apple, who is always about to die. But they keep on going. I bought a K1000se back in 1989 and a few years later they got bought by Young Chang. People said they were done. Now they're still going. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a $500 effects box from them. I might think twice before dropping $6,000 on a decked out 2600 or something. I have always loved their gear, like my PC2R...it just sounds great.

Kurzweil is now owned by Samick, and while I've had problems with my ex-K2000, I'm still considering a Rumor and even more so, the new PC1X 88-key synth, as I've been lusting after it for months now (I need a piano-like feel for certain projects, and Kurzweil pianos are about the best you can get short of the real thing).

Well, they used to be. I'll still take an old PC88 over anything that's out there today, but if you're looking at current models, Yamaha is the way to go for piano feel. Kurzweil's piano action got all spongey when they moved into the "Purple" line and hasn't recovered since IMHO. I'm surpised to hear someone bought them up - several retailers out here in LA stopped carrying their stuff last year because they were supposedly going out of business, maybe Samick can restore some dignity to the brand, they've had quite a fall since the days when they ruled the sampler industry.
