I'm not sure I understand your question...are you asking if 733mhz is the fastest mac available? If so, the answer is yes, that is the highest clock speed currently available for a G4. If there were a faster machine out, Apple would have it listed in their online store.

I'm really not trying to start another mac/pc debate, but let me point out the following: 733 mhz in a Mac is probably equivilant to about 1.5 ghz in Windows.

I just had to get that in.

Even with a conservative estimate, the dual 533 will be as fast as the single 733 for many tasks under OS X. It might be a better idea down the road to get a dual, assuming Digi will support OS X.

Or just wait until macworld ny this July, most likely there will be new models (rumored dual 733?).

Just a thought

Digi doesn't support dual processor boxes yet, though after speaking briefly to Eric Day, there would seem to be a glimmer of hope down the road.

I don't want to start a flame war either, I will let the hard numbers do the talking And again, this is not a "I'm better than you" thread between Macs/PCs. I would like to see more Mac users post their results though to obtain a larger sample base. A few out of thousands of users is not a very accurate representation of the population.

IMHO - The value of this information should be free to the community of PT users. We are all on the same side, right?

Yes, indeed.

Of course not.

Absolutely not.

This thread is the first brief hint I've seen that PC's could possibly run conventional audio apps faster...I don't know where you are getting this but I've never heard anything remotely like that before. I have had native projects running with the equivalent of 46 mono tracks and native projects with as many as 25 CPU-hungry plug-ins. No native PC is twice that fast, and maybe not even that fast. And how fast is fast when much of the time you're sorting out IRQ's and solving bone-headed compatibility problems on a 3 to 1 ratio to Macs?

CHECK OUT WWW.APPLE.COM AND CLICK ON THE SUBHEADING "HARDWARE". READ THE COMPARISON STATING DIFINITIVELY THAT THE G4 733MHZ
IS 57% FASTER THAN A 1.5GHZ PENTIUM 4. THATS FASTER THAN 2.25GHZ IN A PC. I HAVE RECENTLY CONVERTED FROM PC TO MAC. GOT THE G4 733 SUPERDRIVE TWO NIGHTS AGO AND HAVE GOTTEN FOUR HOURS OF SLEEP SINCE. I HAVE TO ADMIT I'M ONE HAPPY CUSTOMER.

Exactly. But to be fair, this spec is based on velocity-engine accellerated apps, some of which claim a 12-fold increase in speed. I'm sure I don't have to remind all of you again that PTLE is not velocity-engine accellerated or DP optimized, but I really do enjoy pointing it out time and time again to Digi.
