Default what to listen to ?? soft return or in return ?

Hello all, I´ve installed windows 7 ultimate and Pt 7.4 M-powered. All works fine until a thing came to my mind. On the m-audio audiophile 192 control panel there are a few diferents ways to listen the 1/2 output source. One is the S/W rtn and the other is the 1/2 in. Which one should i choose to listen to the ¨real thing¨ of the source ?. In my case, i always connect a direct line guitar amp to a mixer to amplifiy the input signal.

In another tag, there is a function called ¨disable asio direct monitoring¨. What is this mean ?. If i enable this option it will affect anything of the other thing ?.
