Familiar with RME converters?!!

Guys what's going on. Just picked up an rme ADI 8 ds pro. Protools won't lock to external clock.
It automatically reverts to internal. i have instrument cables going to the analog ins (NOT using db 25) and then the adat out going to the adat IN to Pro tools le.

A/d is set to INT
Clock is 44.1
The d/a light is blinking (should it matter? not using the d/a right now)
and the digital input is on adat.

i can get the D/A light to stop blinking if i switch to tdif. But I'm not using tdif so that shouldn't matter either right?

I am sufficient in the digital domain but not an expert. Any help would be appreciated.

What did you do to get it working?I have a friend who has been trying to get the same piece to work but has had no luck.Regards Skip
