With Pro Tools closed, Open your iLok manager.

The latest iLok manager defaulted a iLok cloud in auto management mode. I have never used iLok cloud (intentionally) and yet there it was. And there were some secondary licenses in it. It's possible Pro Tools is opening using those licenses (one of those secondary was Pro Tools's backup license.)
And auto mode means it can reopen itself (which is why it should be switched to manual first.) For instance, if Pro Tools opens and is missing plugin licenses, it can open the cloud to check in auto (missing licenses like the SynthCell/GrooveCell licenses that haven't deposited yet)
Wow. They need to fix this.

I can't repro this after setting my iLok Cloud to Automatic, closing my Cloud Session, uninstalling and reinstalling iLM, then launching PT. If I deactivate my PT license from my iLok3 before launching PT it gives me the window (attached) asking if I want to "Restore your iLok Cloud session?" So it's not opening automatically for me.

Please check that the options for 'Show all...dialogs" are enabled in iLM's Preferences > General. If still having trouble please follow the steps at ilok.com/#!support/help/102029547 > Problems... > iLok not recognized... and start a support ticket there to share logs and info.

I’m having this issue too. ILM had enabled cloud licensing (I’ve never used it knowingly and don’t want to) and it had put lots of my licenses onto it - no confirmation/request to do this, never once seen a cloud dialog come up which I think is incredibly bad design from Pace. Took all those licenses off the cloud, switched to managed mode and shut cloud session but Pro Tools is still crashing occasionally saying it can’t find the Ilok.

Although this is completely a problem of Pace’s making Pro Tools should not immediately crash out. I know Avid stopped Pro Tools only checking Ilok at startup because multi-room facilities were doing the ilok race around the building at the beginning of the day to boot up multiple Pro Tools from only one ilok but some middle ground would be good, so we’re not crashing in the middle of a session.

Done. Hopefully you and Pace will be able to get to the bottom of this soon, it's interrupting work, often at really bad moments.

The issue continues 1-2x/day. Report filed w/ Pace... and ILM has been in managed mode (only) with no cloud auths all long.
Hope this can be sorted out soon.

Hey guys, we've been having this exact issue as well with a 2019 Mac Pro running 10.15.7 and Pro Tools 2022.4, happened as soon as we upgraded to 2022.4. Any updates or has anyone found a fix?

Hey Stephen,

It's a little soon to tell, but there IS a new version of ILM (5.6) available on the iLok site. They recommend doing a full uninstall of the old (5.5.2 or earlier) and rebooting prior to installing the new version. I completed those steps yesterday & for at least the last 24 hours have not had this error recur. YMMV.
(prior to the update we were seeing it 2-3 x/day)
