What is the best / most common backup system?
our studio is looking into a backup solution now. we use exabyte for the Sonic master DAW's, but are looking for something more robust for PT. the main thing is that we find something both reliable and common. there are so many formats out there now that i feel a bit lost. what are the people (by that i mean real people--musicians and project studios) using?
DLT is a bit expensive. what about VXA? LTO? what others are there? i'm also afraid that most musicians are going to bring in sessions backed up on CD, which is a drag. but if there really is a good solution, please tell me. thanks. |

Re: What is the best / most common backup system?
Did you do a search of the DUC here? I think was covered not too long ago and in many posts in the past you should find your answer.
regards Bill

AIT + is also great. 180 M/S, and 35 Gig uncompressed. Have used it for over two years without a glitch. 3 units.

Re: What is the best / most common backup system?
I use 33gig VXA tapes with Glyph drives and Retro software. Works great for me and it's fast!

Re: What is the best / most common backup system?
I posted a thread not long ago. The most efficient are Exabyte Mammoth 2 (L2) and Ultrium (HP, IBM), but they're too expensive for now (about 4-5,000 $ for the machine). I'm still on DVD...

Re: What is the best / most common backup system?
I've been using the Ecrix VXA drive and the 30 G tapes with Retrospect. No problems.

Re: What is the best / most common backup system?
I have been using the VXA drives now for over a year and have backed up more than a TeraB of data, They are inexpensive, well manufactured, reliable, have a great firmware upgrade system. They also work really well with Mezzo which is my choice for backing up complicated multi drive sessions. Check out the VXA site. The technology used is also very solid. Much better than the old DDS DAT drives.
