002 loosing contact crisis
Help!! In big trouble - Quick silver Dual 867 G4 - Just went through 3 day ordeal of upgrading to PT7, and 10..4.3 OSX, as well as all of the 3rd party plug in updates. This system has been up and runniing for over a year without fault, and now PT can barely get through launching without loosing contact with the digirack 002. Any ideas??
Have session starting tomorrow -Thanks for any thoughts |

Re: 002 loosing contact crisis
You're probably experiencing the well-documented power harness issue. You should call Digi first thing in the morning and get them to send you a replacement. In the meantime, you can try opening the unit up and jiggle/check all the harness connections (white translucent connectors) - that may get you up and running again temporarily.

Re: 002 loosing contact crisis
Actually, the problem is probably your Quicksilver G4. The requirements for Pro Tools 7 state specifically:
"Not Recommended All models with processor speeds less than 1 GHz All "Quicksilver" models from 2001-2002" Here's a link: http://www.digidesign.com/compato/osx/002rack/g4.cfm I have a Quicksilver Dual 1 gig, and experience the same problem. It works fine with Pro Tools 6.9.2 under Tiger, but not Pro Tools 7. Both my Mbox and Dig002R exhibit problems with Pro Tools 7 running on my QS Dual 1 gig. Bummer. The only workable solution for the Quicksilver series to successfully run Pro Tools 7 LE would be the M-Powered version with M-Audio hardware. It appears the M-Powered version is compatible with the Quicksilver series. |

Re: 002 loosing contact crisis
Jasona,
After re-seating molex connectors and completely going through the inside of my 002, I got your response and read on through the "compatibility " page i'l fell short of reading when I started this upgrade. Thanks for the notice - feeling kind of stupid! Anyway, off to a day of new computer buying and software loading. Thanks for the help! -B |

Quicksilver Mac question
Jason,
Sorry to highjack this thread, but I see you have a dual gig Quicksilver and you're running PTLE 6.9.2 and Tiger. I have the same machine, but I'm using PTLE 6.9 and OSX 10.3.8. The performance is pretty sad compared to OS9, so I presume its an issue with the Quicksilver and OSX. I upgraded my Waves Gold Bundle to version 5 at the same time I migrated to OSX and PTLE 6.9, so that may also contribute to the problem (but Waves claims the v5 plugins are more effecient). Is Tiger and PTLE 6.9 + "effecient" than OSX 10.3.8 + PTLE 6.9? Old sessions that ran fine in OS9 are very unstable and prone to crashing in OSX. One one session file, the CPU usages appears somewhat higher with OSX, and that's even AFTER I've removed a Waves reverb plug in. Any advice on how to optimize my "vintage" Quicksilver for PTLE and OSX would be appreciated. I've reviewed the Digidesign compatibilty info, but I can't determine if Tiger is better for my set up or taxes it harder. thanks in advance for your time, Dave |
