Default OT-File Transfer

I have an old machine running Win 98 and a new machine running XP. I have some files on the old one that I would like to transfer. Is there an easy way to do this? If I connect them via USB will my new computer see the old one as a hard drive?

Thanks, sorry for the OT.

if both computers have network cards, you can buy a special ethernet cable that has 2 wires switched. its called a "crossover cable". you can find them at any computer store. connect the 2 network cards with this cable and make the transfer through the network neighborhood.

Or if you only have to do the transfer once:

Install the winxp system, and after installation, install the HD from the win98 machine too. Transfer your files, and remove the HD again.

There are USB network solutions, but if this is a one-time thing its a waste of money so spend any money on the transfer.

PCI-networkcards and cables cost around $30

swapping harddrives costs around $0
