Anybody using PT12 on 2011-2012 IMAC?
Hello,
I have a 3.4 GHz Intel I7 IMAC, from late 2011. I am considering upgrading from PT 10 to PT 12. The computer isn't offocially supported, but the specs seem to be fine. Curious to know if anyone has any experience one way or the other. Thanks Ian |

I would expect a performance/stability improvement based on my experience with an older i5, when upgrading to PT11/12 ... and you can take advantage of lots of RAM if you have it - this will help significantly with bigger sessions but particularly because you can now use disk cache :)

FWIW, I'm running a mid-2012 Macbook Pro with Pro Tools 12.1 on OSX 10.8.5...No issues to speak of. I cannot vouch for later operating systems or versions of Pro Tools beyond 12.1 (it seems people are having issues with both.)

I am running PT 12.4 on El Capitan on a Mid 2011 iMac i7, 12GB RAM.
Seems to be working fine for me so far- -dj

Mid 2010 here, 4 gig of ram, full band sessions seven days a week. Works great! Not much in the way of VIs though.

Re: Anybody using PT12 on 2011-2012 IMAC?
Though it is not at all my main machine, I have a mid 2010 iMac 21.5" i3 (yes, you read that right - i3) dual processor with an SSD boot drive and 16 GB of RAM that runs the latest version of PT 12 just fine. Sure it won't be as fast to render some effects or offline bounce, but it still runs PT for basic and some even complex session work just fine.
If it had a standard platter hard drive, it might not be as snappy, but even with the "unsupported" i3 processor, it does indeed work. So I think your machine should work fine. Of course, remember that the video engine doesn't work with less than 8 GB of installed RAM. |

Re: Anybody using PT12 on 2011-2012 IMAC?
hi ian, have the same exact comp (16G) in my home studio,
running dual install of hd10.3.10 an hd12.4 on 10.8.5, doing dense edit/mix sessions, without a single crash yet from 12; in fact can create mixes on the I7 that bring our hd6 system on a mac pro (back at the studio), to it's knees, and end up having to kill some processing… e
