Default clarification - upgrade plan

Hi all,

I've PT 10 - imac.

According to avid site, I can upgrade to PT 12 and "stay current" for a year for $199.

My question is this - what happens after the year? Do I own the software, and will still be usable, just without continuing upgrades? Or, am I required to purchase another annual upgrade to continue using?

Thanks.

You own the current license and it keeps working with whatever latest binary you had, but you don't get more upgrades until you re-up you subscriptions. All answered in many posts here if you use the site or Google search.

You will able to keep using PT's at whatever version it is at, at the end of term. This is what is called a perpetual license. But, if you do let it lapse, there is no 'upgrade' after that and if you want to 'get current' you have to re-purchase into the plan at full price or go the monthly subscription plan.

Interesting.
Hmmm. So pay $199 annually, or in a few years pay whatever it is to start over ( $899?).
I guess either way, you'll keep paying.

Thanks guys. All so confusing. I like to just work on my stuff that works, and not deal
with all this computer stuff, but alas....
ha ha..

I think Sept 5th is the date for the AVID Q & A

...., hopefully AVID will crawl out from underneath their "cone of silence" - and answer all these questions that concerned users need to know .

"Cone of silence" - oh yeah, for sure. Pretty damn disgusting, not to mention unbelievably stupid, for a company that relies on a customer client base for their revenue. This kind of corporate arrogance has been proven to absolutely not work decades ago by the results that the big three auto companies got by behaving the same way. Is there no learning going on here?!! What doesn't work doesn't work, period.

Prepare to hear "coming soon" used many times.

If you're working on "stuff" that relies on computers and software than you have to deal with the "computer stuff"... and the companies that are developing those tools for you to "create stuff". If PT is a tool that works for you $199 a year is pretty reasonable... if not there are numerous DAWs out there...
