Default computer in other room...how long can cords be?

I'm in a new studio now where I could put my desk top computer in another room, about 10-12 feet from my desk ( to minimize noise). What is the procedure for dealing with the keyboard, mouse, monitor, and firewire cables?

Thanks Rail...so if I went with the 1000 (http://www.gefen.com/kvm/product.jsp?prod_id=2294) I'd use a USB mouse and keyboard, right?

Anybody else doing this sort of thing? I'm a little surprised at the cost

Right - do you have a digital (DVI) or a VGA monitor?

VGA, though I recently got a LG flat screen, I think I'm going to start using that, or maybe use 2. Sorry to be ignorant, but is the LG a VGA? It uses the same cable hook-up

If it uses the same connector it's probably analog (VGA)... You could buy a long well shielded VGA cable for about $80. Check the monitor's specs to be sure (you didn't mention the model number).

Hey guy.fi,

I've been doing this for years. What I use is a switchbox from when I switched between 2 computers using the same mouse, keyboard & monitor.

The computer is about 12' from the 002R and in an adjacent room. I have 10' cables with standard computer connectors going from the computer to the switchbox - mouse(green), keyboard(purple) and VGA for the LCD's, and then the regular cables from the switchbox to peripherals. No USB stuff. Since I use 2 monitors, I use an extension cable(Belkin)for the 2nd monitor.

Works like a charm.

I found a 25' extension cable (monitor, keyboard, mouse) for $34. Do you guys see any inherent problems with this?

I don't think there will be a problem with the keyboard & mouse at that length, but not sure about the VGA. My extra VGA extension cable is only 10'.

What's their return policy if it doesn't work to your satisfaction?
