Musicman. I guess at one point I thought it may be preferable to eject the drive, but I guess that's not the case. The other reason I eject though, is sometimes, I'm done using pro tools, and just want to surf the net, and figure I shouldn't just leave the external drive running all day. Does this make sense, or it's a bad idea?
Two years isn't old and drives can fail at any time, especially if you don't have them and the computer on some kind of power protection system. What you get in your Home Depot kind of power strip is worse than useless as the protection in them fails to a short and that ain't good.

No problem leaving a drive spinning all day. They're made to do that. Your computer's internal drive spins all day.

I am getting the same message with PT10 and an mbox 3. The system drive is brand new and set to read and write as is my external G Drive (which is new also). I've tried sessions on both drives, nothing, same error. Disk allocation is fine. Did anyone find out what's up. I have a session in the morning.

Thanks
J

James,

I don't really know what the problem was for me.
I checked the drives. Trashed preferences. Tried to verify the disk in disk utility. It wouldn't unmount. Repaired disk. Nothing seemed to make a difference. I decided to be done for the day, and try again the next.
The next day, everything was fine ( it took a while for my external drive to show up on the desktop ), and everything has worked fine since.
Go figure.
Hope your's is fine as well.

Hey,

Since this worked for a couple years and now seems to have some bugs, have you done a repair disk permissions on the G-Drive?

Just open disk manager and select the G-Drive and hit Repair permissions.

Disk permissions repair doesn't work on external drives - only the boot drive. You can verify an external drive but that's a different animal than disk permissions.

I think I may have confused checking for errors with disk permissions.... you should have this as an option on an external drive.

I was referring to this:

The op won't have that as what you're showing is for a Windows machine and we're talking about a Mac here.

I am on my windows partition and cant swap due to my job, but you can do the same on a MAC just go to Disk Utility under accesories... or rather Utilities

On my MAC side now and looked into this....

On my external drive I have the option to "repair disk" as shown in the picture....

This is what I was referring to but had to be on Windows yesterday.. see image.... see bottom right option that says REPAIR DISK.
