I'm not trying to discourage you but you might want to try some of Guitardoms micing tips before you spend any money. Nothing wrong with buying a few good pres and mics either.

No it's not discouraging at all. If I can getthe sound I want just by mic placements. I'd be totally happy

And which is why any evaluation of a product's sound is useless unless it is done blind, preferably double blind.
