Default Please Help 7.4

Ok,

I've posted about this before and I was told to get an external hard drive. Did that, it worked better for a while. Not perfect but better. But not I'm back to the same problem. I can only record and/or playback for about 10-15 seconds before it tells me to increase or decrease my h/w buffer size. Well I've done all that and it never improves. It gets worse but never any better. I'm out of ideas as to what it could be. I bought a compatible external hard drive, my system matches or exceeds requirements for the program. What is the problem. I have jobs that have been put on hold because of this problem and I'm losing out on other projects every day. I need help ASAP please any input you have would be appreciated.

What numeric error message(s) are you getting specifically? There are several with text about "Buffer Errors", but knowing the specific error numbers will narrow down what exact problem you are having, and help us help you better.

Does that firewire drive have the recommended Oxford 911 chipset?

Are you actually using the modem? If not, you should disable it completely.

Are all of these printers actually hooked up at the time you are using Pro Tools? Are any of them hooked up at the time you are using Pro Tools?

It is definitely recommended to disable those when using Pro Tools, especially the wireless. Having the wireless network card enabled when using Pro Tools can cause 6088 errors.

The error # i get is -6086. The hard drive should be fine. Here is the address for it. https://oyendigital.com/mm5/merchant...FA2-72-100-IHI

Yeah it's the cheapest one I could find with the required specs but I would think if that was the problem it should have at least improved a little over the internal hard drive I was using before.
I always disconnect the networks when using pro tools. Also the printers aren't physicaly hooked up but I can send data to them wirelessly. I also disconnected the modem but it didn't help the problem. I appreciate the input.

That is typically a firewire communication problem. Is the firewire interface you are using one of the qualified ones?

I agree. Ans since you are still having the same problem, it points in another direction.

That's good, but you should always run the sandra report on the same setup you are running Pro Tools on.

Ah! Something else I just thought of: are your USB Root hubs set so that they don't allow the computer to power them down to save power? That's been known to cause 6086 errors with the MBox, IIRC.

Also, Have you tried plugging the MBox into a different USB port? I know on the macbook, running OSX or WinXP, you will get errors if you are plugged into the port closest to the screen. It's worth a try if you have another port.

Good point SPK. Also, when you installed PT 7.4, did you install the avid video engine?

On another note, How much EA are you using in these sessions?
