Yes but not in the same way...

4GB per process... So most plugins in PT run within the PT process, but some do not and can take advantage of additional ram.. (so I've been told)

All the other system processes can each take advantage of up to 4gb as well.. At least thats the theory as far as I understand it..

So if I have 9GB RAM is each processor using a different bit of RAM?

OS's in general work the same way and set a limit of physical and virtual RAM that each process can access. Window's I believe is 2/2GB physical/virtual, and OS X I think its 4/4GB physical/virtual. So PT main app loads and get its 4/4. PT spins off processes each one get it own 4/4. Load plugs and etc they each get 4/4.

Being most our computers don't have boatloads of physical RAM so virtual/swap is used. That is why important to have a fast OS drive where swap resides. Also limiting what's on the main drive so all the I/O can go to handle OS, swap, and app. That is part of why Digi say record to a separate drive you're creating contention for IO if everything on one drive.

Yes but I believe all 32-bit versions of Windows (which PT requires) can only address 4GB total for all processes. You have to take into account any other memory in the system the OS is addressing also (for example your video card). So even though you may have 4GB of RAM in your system Windows can't address it all. However OSX can, as mentioned address each process individually. And it depends on the process as to how much it can address. A 32-bit process such as PTLE can address 4GB, while other processes can address completely seperate RAM. At least this is my understanding.
