Default Alesis Studio 24

Does anyone here use this mixer for channels 3-8 on your digi 001? I know this is one of the cheapest mixers w/ direct outs... If so, how do you like it?

I used it for a while, it's a decent board. The big downside is that the direct outs aren't balanced. If you're going to use that series of mixer, get the Studio 32 with TRS direct outs. I switched to a Mackie 1604-VLZ I noticed a huge difference. The Mackie board is quiter, the pre-amps are better, and the overall output is a lot louder and cleaner.

i am looking at this mixer because i found a great deal on it.

i am looking for something to record drums.

please excuse the moron in me but...what does is mean that the signal is unbalanced?

is there a better deal for under $400?

how about monitors? under $300-$400?
realize i have been working with digi and headphones (aiwa hp-x222 at that) for a year.

for great inexpensive monitors I would suggest Yamaha ns10's, but you'll need to buy an amp as well.

Can't you just buy a snake that goes from the jacks on the Alesis and converts it to 1/4 inch? If the mackie is of higher quality, I'd prefer to go with that, how much is that mixer? Thanks!

I checked out that mackie, it was $979, I was looking into the alesis because it was $400, and even the mackie 1402-VLZ PRO 8 channel is over $500. Were the alesis preamps that bad? Also, if I use the snake to convert the jack styles, will it do the job?

Jon Sutton - Check out event PS5's, they're powered so you don't have to mess w/ a power amp. You will notice a world of difference if you are only using headphones. I have had a great experience with the PS6's.

Thanks!

I've had a pair of Tannoy Reveal actives for 2 1/2 years now. They're nice. The low end is a little lacking. get the PS110 sub with them and you'd be rockin!

i see the alesis for $400 also (blowout sale). that is why i am interested.

i need a mixer, monitors and a few more mic's. for this reason i can't blow a grand on a mixer. 4-hundy is right up my alley. looks like a decent eq, i had heard that alesis made nice pre's and you can't beat the outs. even the $1000 mackie didn't have outs for each channel.

**still in the dark though- what are unbalanced outs?

how bout any super-bargain mics?

thanks for the monitor recommendations, i'm researching at the speed of light.
