Default Digi 001 - Win ME freezes after installing the PCI card

Digi 001 Win ME freezes after installing the PCI card

Windows ME (fresh install)
Asus A7V Motherboard
AMD Athlon Processor (1.3 GHz I think)
Western Digital 40 GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive
518 MB RAM

I plugged in the PCI card and installed the drivers, and everything seemed to be successful... But the computer freezes up randomly unless I unplug the card. It usually freezes between 3-5 minutes. I've searched the forums and tried everything I've seen, switching slots, DMA selected (hard drive & CD-ROM drive,) etc. but it still happens. The only things on my IRQ 5 are Digi001 and Holder for PCI IRQ Steering. It's been on other IRQ numbers but the same thing happens. I haven't even installed the software yet...

This also happened on a previous install on my old (slow) hard drive, and on a clean install on my new hard drive... On the old hard drive I installed the software, and it looked like everything worked, I played the demo files with no problem, but the computer still froze randomly. Any ideas?

Thanks

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Sounds like a motherboard issue or a digi card issue. Try plugging Digi into PC slot 3. That should put it on IRQ 9 with this motherboard. Take out other PC cards except your video of course and start with just the Digi card. Disable any onboard sounds in bios and remove them from Device Manager. In bios, make sure your system performance is set to normal mode. If you aren't using USB devices, disable them in bios too. In Control Panel/Sounds, make sure you select "No Sound Schemes". These were big issues with this motherboard. Lastly, make sure you don't have any programs running in the background that startup automatically in the time frame you are seeing it happen. For example, an email program, anti-virus program or other communication software like First Class.
If you still get freezes, try putting the digi card in another computer and see if you get the same freezing. If it works in another computer, get a new motherboard as they are cheap now. A7V133 would work for you and your current ram.
Good luck,

Well, it works when I pull out my USB card, it's a PCI card that adds a few extra USB ports... I tried putting each card in each slot but the only time I don't freeze up is when I pull the USB card... Any way I can have both?

Thanks for the help

Have you checked for an IRQ conflict?

How do I check for an IRQ conflict?

Also, since pulling the USB card, I thought the freezes had stopped, but it still happens... But now Windows freezes after about 40-45 minutes when it used to freeze after 5-10 minutes.

The Digi 001 is on IRQ 10, and it's only sharing with IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ steering.

I checked, and think I have an Asus A7V with a Via KT133 chipset. Will I need a new motherboard?

Is there anything else I should try first before buying XP?
