Default Nugen SEQ-S public beta

http://www.nugenaudio.com/seq-s-line...-aax-au-vst_22

sounds like it will do what that EQ matching EQ that Roger bought the right to did (I can't think of the name of it) for helping match ADR to production

I downloaded the Beta and I am going to try it, but, I am skeptical. Matching ADR is not only about EQ , there is also axis issues, tone of voice of performer, diction, how much "room" exists in both mic the adr and the location sound, type of mic etc. It is great to have a "helping" tool but I think manual matching and experience may not compare to an automatic plugin that wants to do the same. So, I am not a believer yet, but I must say, I could not believe that Unveil can do what it does...and now I truly admire unveil. Again, Unveil can not fix 'everything' that has to much verb, but when used correctly, not-overdoing it, it is amazing and transparent. May be this new Nugen EQ will change my mind.

For me matching is 30 % eq. I use reverb, time stretch, and pitch to match as well. Sometimes even a little distortion. Anything to make one of those steps easier is a good tool.

I think you're talking about Firium. It was a really nice sounding EQ, but I never had much luck with the matching thing. Maybe Nugen will take it up a notch.

I have it and the promise was great, especially for ADR. I constantly go back and try to use it but it never really does what I want it to. Most of the time you're matching production dx with clean dx. the production totally messes with the EQ and you end up with overly dull or warm material. In this same vain I also tried using the synchro arts plug for matching adr take length to production but always ended up having speed artifacts. If you're shooting adr then something was messed up with the production in the first place, making it hard to use this auto-tools.

Nothing beats a good set of ears with experience in EQ and verb (perspective).

That being said, I'm all for new tech that attempts to alleviate the struggles of doing these type of tasks - leave more time for editorial and mixing.

and, Nugen has offered great products thus far

For me a good ADR is 70% performance, 20% acoustics including distance and mic placement and only 10% an EQ.
With poor actor performance even an experience and best tools will only make it sound tolerable, but still will never be natural for the director and for your self.

Its also very difficult to compete with the post "nuclear weapon" EQ - DMG Equilibrium!
