Default PT8 and RTAS

Dear all, please forgive the basic character of my question. I understand from various threads that to optimize PT8/RTAS performance one must use all processors minus one. Is my understanding correct and does it apply always? If that's the case, I suppose that running PT8 on a dual 2.5GHz G5 would essentially half your processing power (since one could only use one processor out of two), making it impossible to run RTAS-intensive sessions that in 7.4 utilized both processors.

I have such CPU with HD3, but I use a lot of RTAS-dependant virtual instruments.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Hi,

This is not the case with our G5 dual processors! there are a few fussy plugins that prefer one processor (mostly VI's) nearly all have been updated to run on 2 processors.

With multicore Macpro computers it is recommended to reduce to odd number of processors.

I'm running my 7.4 sessions on 8 with no difference on cpu hit or dsp allocation.

Chris

I have the same spec computer as you.
The only one I have come across is Omnisphere which is unusable in PT8.
It is impossible to run on one processor. There are others. I have suggested before that Digi make a list of these. All the the Air stuff is OK.
