Default Firewire connection problem

Hi, I am running Pro Tools 8 on a PC and Digi 002 Rack.

I had the system off for a couple of months and suddenly I am getting the "Unable to locate Digidesign harware..." problem.

When I turn the unit on the firewire light in the rear of the unit blinks then pauses and then blinks two more times. You can also hear it click three times.

Any idea what this means?

Can I connect the 002 Rack to the pc via the optical connection?

Thanks,
FJ

PS - I have tried unseating the power harness about 5 to 6 times.
My serial number ends in G. I have tried 3 different firewire cables. If I hook up my Mbox 2, Pro Tools starts up fine.

Probably, especially with the "G" serial number, need to call Digi CSa about a new power supply harness.
No, the 002R does NOT communicate with the PC via the optical cable, that's for external audio sources.

DO NOT hot-swap the firewire cable!!!!

Mbox 2 is USB, so that means nothing concerning the FW connection.

The 002R is so easy to work on, I would try reseating the harness. Just remove the top cover and face the unit toward you. The PSU is on the right side with 2 connecotrs on it. The 2 wire connector is the incoming AC(so unplug the 002 first). Pull that connecotr off and then on 5-6 times. Now move to the other connector(110-12 wires on it) and work that one off and onn 5-6 times. Then follow those wires to the other 2 connections and work each on several times. If the problem is the harness, that will likely get you another 6 months for 10 minutes work.
