Default dual monitor with db sound help!!

I have macbook running 7.4.2 on a mbox2 mini. I'm using Samson Resolve A65 monitors. I recently bought the hook up for a 2nd screen & when I connect it, it does work but I get a high db sound coming out of my Samson monitors. They are connected by 1/4" from mini to rca in the back of the speakers. I was told it might possibly be the cable and that I should switch to 1/4" to 1/4" balanced and that should eliminate the db sound. Before I go by the cables has any one experienced this or have any idea what it could be?

Try to find a high quality, shielded monitor cable.

Does the sound change if you move the cables around, or the monitor, or your speakers?

It appears the the Mini doesn't have balanced outputs, so you're hosed there..

And do you mean a high freq. sound, or a high db (loud) sound?? Is it a hum or a squeal?

Using unbalanced or RCA connections (even worse) for speakers/monitors is definitely not recommended. Get yourself some balanced cables.

the sound doesn't change @ all when anything is moved. The sound is like when you get your ears tested and you hear those tones in the headphones but it is much worse. (Beeeeeeeeeeeee) ie... What is the purpose of shielded cables?

Slim, the Mini does not have balanced outputs.. Would using balanced cables still help? I'm guessing the monitors have balanced inputs..

The purpose of shielded cable is to isolate your good signal from EMI/RFI. Or in the case of the computer monitor cable, to keep the EMI/RFI from getting out..

It is also possible that some kind of loop is being formed with the USB cable, but that is why I was asking about the type of noise.. I'd say the squealy sound is interference from the monitor and/or the cable..

Is it a CRT or a flat screen monitor?
