Default Eucon "Import Compatible Custom Appset" message

Hey - wondering why Eucon periodically (maybe once a month) throws this dialog out of the blue: "Import Compatible Custom Appset"?

Everything is working fine, and then it pops up seemingly without any reason that I can see. And there's no "cancel" button in the dialog.

What's going on here?

I would like to know what it is too. Very cryptic.

I get this once anytime the year changes on Pro Tools releases (because the Pro Tools version is tied to the year which is tied to the Eucon app set.) But only once.

I do go to the softkeys page after it does its import and perform a save (that way a new app set tied to the current year is created from the imported app set.)

Thanks - I too have seen it (and expect it) on large version upgrades, but this just pops up out of the blue when nothing's changed - a couple times in the last few months. Seems strange, and...shouldn't there be a "Cancel" button?

What is a "compatible custom appset" anyway?
Should I know?
I'm an amateur on eucon, really.

(I find it very uninviting and somewhat cryptic, the whole thing, and the nomenclature; Eucon, Eucontrol, Avid Control. am I the only one who finds it somewhat messy?)

(And I say it again; get rid of the effin' "EuControl" icon in the dock for god's sake. I does NOTHING. You can't even access the settings from it.)

"Import Compatible Custom Appset"
This dialog is intended to help bring any custom appsets you created in an older version of Pro Tools or other DAW into a newer version of Pro Tools or other DAW.
(Custom appsets are Soft Key assignments that you have added or edited from the default assignments. The default appset is the appset supplied by Pro Tools or the EuControl installer.)
For example, let’s say you have a custom appset for Pro Tools 2022.12 then upgrade to Pro Tools 2023.3. When you first launch EuControl and Pro Tools 2023.3, EuControl will show this dialog to let you choose whether to import your previous appset (from 2022.12) OR load the default (dynamic appset supplied by Pro Tools or the EuControl installer) for 2023.3.
What the documentation has failed to explain clearly is that this dialog will keep being displayed until you do the following: (1) Import your custom appset. and then (2) save it (in EuControl Settings > Soft Keys, click Save) to update your custom appset to the current version (such as 2023.3).
If you do not select “Don't show again” in that "ImportCustomCompatibleAppset" dialog and you do NOT save the loaded appset, it will keep asking you each time you run and connect EuConntrol to that same DAW (such as Pro Tools 2023.3).
Note: If you do choose to load either your older custom appset or the new default appset and save it, but the dialog continues to be displayed, uninstall and then re-install EuControl. Here's how to do that:
1. Launch the installer (EUCON_WorkstationUnifiedInstall). Items that are currently installed are selected (checked) and indicated as Installed.
2. Select Uninstall all applications, and select Uninstall User Preferences (your appsets will not be removed).
3. Click Continue (Mac) or Next (Windows).
4. Restart your computer.
5. After your computer restarts, launch the installer (EUCON_WorkstationUnifiedInstall) again.
6. Select each option you want to install:
• To only install EuControl, select S1 / S3 / Dock / Control / Artist Series.
• To also install Avid Control Desktop, select it.
7. Click Continue (Mac) or Next (Windows), then click Install.
8. When reminded that a restart is required, click Continue Installation (Mac) or Yes (Windows).
9. When installation is complete click Restart.

Thanks, Halfmoon. Makes sense.
I still think the whole thing is pretty convoluted and unintuitive.

Yes but...I've done this on my initial install of 2023.3 and Eucon (whatever the current version is), and like I said, it's thrown this message only a few times in the last few months, and it never threw it in previous versions... I mean, I know *what* it does, but I'm wondering why it's intermittently throwing that message, and...why isn't there a *cancel* button? Just seems weird to me.

best,
rich

I got this message for no apparent reason last week as well. Nothing had changed in my software or hardware configuration. Don't know why.
