Default Number of simultaneous recording tracks w/ PTLE & a 002

I'm thinking about purchasing a Digi 002 and a new 1GHz imac/1G ram/new external firewire drive. Does anyone know how many tracks of 24 bit/96kHz tracks can be recorded simultaneously using the digi 002 with an additional external A/D? How many simultaneous tracks if in 24 bit/48kHz? Can MIDI be recorded at the same time as all of these audio tracks. Will the performance be sluggish even without any plug-ins, EQs, or automation running?

You can record 18 tracks at the same time (8-002, 8-ADAT, 2-S/PIDF). I have recorded 16 (24-48) tracks live with a G4-733 without any problems. Not sure how much the 96 will affect the outcome. Stick with OSX and make sure it is set up correctly. Also make sure that the drive was formatted with Apple's Disk Utility and that is it optimized. You will need an external A/D, so make sure that the clock is synced to ADAT. That will save a bunch of headaches trying to figure out where all the clicks are coming from (learned from experience).

It will only record ten tracks at 96kHz...the eight built-in inputs and two channels via S/PDIF. The ADAT inputs don't work at 96 kHz.

You are correct. The ADAT is 48k. Sorry for the confusion.
