Default C24 and monitoring inputs..

Hello all.
The studio I work at just bought a C24 and installed it this week.
One thing has myself and the other engineers a bit confused...

When plugging in a mic to the mic preamps that are built in to the C24 I
cannot see the input level on the channels meters. Is this normal? The only
way I can get a reading is to open a PT session and hit the "input" button on
the channel I am using.
We are running a PT HD system.

Any thoughts here guys/ gals?

Eric

The mic/line pre's and sub-mixer are completely stand alone on the C24 and have only inputs, gain and outputs. The outs need to go to PT interface inputs to be seen within Pro Tools. Only once inside PT will they mean anything at all to a PT session, or to any PT controller, including the rest of the C24 ... and its meters. In other words, the meters are only showing what's going on within a PT session; to see any mic/line pre or sub-mix source on the meters, it must first be taken from the C24 analogue outs, through a PT interface and configured into a session track somewhere. IHTH.

So you are saying it doesn't work in stand alone mode, it has to have PT on, and a session up to get sound through mic pre's?

The mic/line pre's, the sub-mix and the full monitoring sections all work "stand-alone", but for the rest of the controller (including the channel meters) to work, they can only be talking to a live PT session. This means you can have all your gear hooked up through the pre's or sub-mix inputs and listen to anything and everything coming in, but for the Pro Tools controller to work (the faders, channel meters, channel strips, transport controls, soft keys etc etc), or of course to record and/or play back any recorded material, the PT controller parts of the desk must be talking ethernet into your pro-tools session. I hope this is helpful.
