Default Is Using an external drive a Bad idea?

Ive been using an external drive to record sessions to . This allows me to go back and forth between my desktop computer and when I want to go mobile with my laptop.

Is it effecting my performance? I havent seen any noticable difference and I havent gotten any write delays or errors. Just want to know if this is a bad idea or if it doesnt matter. My system drive in the desktop is a SATA 500GB 7200rpm.

The External is an USB 2.0 Western Digital 7200rpm My Book External Drive

Desktop System
Pentinum D 945 (3.4ghz) 2mb
500 GB SATA (7200rpm)
Win XP
External Drive 250 GB (USB)
Motherboard - Intel DG965WH Media Series
2 GB Hyper Kingston

You are doing it the right way. It's not a good idea to track your session's to the OS drive.

recording to a usb drive is NOT RECOMMENDED.

although it has been reported successful by some users of this forum, it is not supported or recommended.

the reasons behind this are due to the way usb accesses the drive (which in high demand situations can lead to dropouts and lost data).

for external drives, firewire is best.
